Flagler County, FL – Soon, Flagler County officials will hold a time capsule burial ceremony to mark an end to its centennial year celebration.

Starting on Wednesday, December 13, the time capsule contents will be on display in the lobby of the Government Services Building in Bunnell. At 4 PM on Monday, December 18, the time capsule will be closed and buried outside in front of the Government Services Building.

Letters, photographs, memorabilia, and other printed materials collected by the Flagler County Board of Commissioners’ Centennial Committee make up the contents of the capsule.

“The Centennial Committee, volunteers, and staff did a wonderful job creating a memorable year and engaging the community,” said Flagler County Administrator Craig Coffey.

The Centennial Committee will reflect on the year with a photo recap at the beginning of the Board of County Commissioners meeting at 5 PM on December 18. Refreshments will be served at the time capsule event before the Commissioners meeting.

“We welcome the community to join us for this event,” said Flagler County Commission Chair Greg Hansen. “It’s been a delight to look back on our history as we contemplate the future.”

The County’s centennial year events began with a Centennial Celebration on April 29. Events like geocaching, kayaking, photo contests, and screenings of the film “Creature from the Black Lagoon” and its sequel were scheduled throughout the year by the committee. The year-long celebration was featured by Florida Frontiers on radio and television.

The committee also partnered with the Flagler County General Services Department to create a centennial float to use in the Fourth of July Flagler Beach Rotary Club parade, Holiday at the Beach Parade, and the Palm Coast Starlight Parade. The theme of the float, a trophy offered by the Golden Lion Café, won first place at the Holiday at the Beach Parade, as well as “Best Float” at the Palm Coast Starlight parade.
