Palm Coast, FL - A Flagler Palm Coast High School student ends up Baker Acted after telling deputies he posted a video threatening to shoot up the school on social media as a joke.
The 17-year-old - whom WNDB News is not naming since he's underage - was also charged with a felony count of written threats to conduct a mass shooting after the Flagler County Sheriff's Office took him into custody last night (April 4th) at his home on Louisiana Drive in Palm Coast.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly says it all started when a woman at the Flagler County Fair went up to a deputy earlier that evening with concerns over a Snapchat video, which is posted below.
"As we have said many times before, this is not a joke and these threats will only get you in serious trouble," Staly added. "A special thank you to the fair visitor that reported the SnapChat posting."
Detectives managed to trace the video to a social media account belonging to that FPCHS student, and when they reached out to him, the boy claimed he found the video on YouTube and reposted it to his Snapchat briefly before taking it down.
His dad told FCSO afterward that the boy had no access to guns or ammunition at his residence and that the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice should "keep him", per the arrest report.
While he was being booked at Flagler County Jai, the boy "made comments" that required him to be Baker Acted, according to FCSO spokesperson Brittany Kershaw.
"Once he is medically cleared, he will be turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona [Beach]," Kershaw added.
Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager tells us extra deputies will be stationed at campus schools today just in case.
"As we’ve said in the past, ensuring our campuses are safe for our students, teachers, and staff is our top priority," Tager noted. "Threats such as the one in this incident will not be tolerated."
