Palm Coast, FL - The First Annual Sheriff's Gala in Palm Coast raised $70,645.28 in order to benefit the Flagler Sheriff's Employee Assistance Trust (FSEAT), which helps Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) employees in need. The gala took place at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast on Saturday night. The event included a live auction where the winning bidder received a ride along with Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, a western hat autographed by Staly, and a day observing FCSO's SWAT team train. Some of the major sponsors of the night included Dr. Caesar DePaco, the Honorary Consul of Portugal, the Douglas Family, Palm Coast Ford, and the Hammock Beach Resort. At the gala, The Sheriff's Office also gave special recognition to FCSO employees, volunteers, and citizens who displayed outstanding service to the community in 2017. The awards given out at the gala, (courtesy FCSO) can be found below: Deputy Braxton Wall - 2017 Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year: Wall is a member of FCSO's Community Policing Division.

Deputy Brian Sheridan - 2017 Detention Deputy of the Year: Sheridan is an employee at the Flagler County Detention Facility. FCSO says Sheridan "displayed professionalism and integrity during a difficult situation at the jail this past year."

Shannon Sandberg - 2017 Civilian of the Year: Sandberg is a crime analyst for FCSO who has been instrumental in dozens of investigations in 2017.

Sonia Byrne - 2017 Volunteer of the Year: In 2017, Byrne volunteered over 2,500 hours to FCSO's Citizen Observer Program. During the last 15 years, Sonia has volunteered over 32,000 hours.

Ladena Rutland - 2017 Citizen of the Year: FCSO says Rutland rushed two young boys to the hospital after the boys had been critically injured by exploding fireworks last year.

“I can’t thank the community enough for the support they have shown the men and women of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office through their donations and sponsorships,” Staly said. “I am personally moved by the generosity of our sponsors and to all who have contributed to FSEAT and making the First Annual Sheriff’s Gala a huge success." Next year's gala will be held January 26, 2019, at the Hammock Beach Club. For more information on FSEAT or to make a tax-deduction donation, head to www.FSEAT.org.
