Palm Coast, FL - Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly will soon compete in the 2018 CFDA Cowboy Fast Draw Competition to keep his title of “Fastest Lawman.”

At 12 PM on Sunday, April 15, Sheriff Staly will compete against other law enforcement leaders such as Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, Putnam County Sheriff Gator DeLoach, and Florida Highway Patrol Corporal Pete Young. The event is timed and participants use single action revolvers, western style cowboy gun belts and holsters, and wax bullets to shoot at metal targets. The event will begin at noon at the Florida Agricultural Museum at 7900 Old Kings Road in Palm Coast, but attendees are recommended to arrive early to see Sheriff Staly’s special arrival.

The Law Enforcement Shootout is a way for participants to raise money for a charity of their choice. During last year’s competition, the FCSO raised more than $9,000 for the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches (FSYR). Sheriff Staly is a member of the FSYR’s Board of Directors. Throughout his entire career, Staly has supported the FSYR.

Those who would like to make a donation should visit https://www.youthranches.org/index.php/ways-to-give/online-donation, select “Where most needed,” and add “Flagler Sheriff Fastest Gun Competition” under Additional Comments. If a check donation is preferred, the check should be made payable to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. Checks can be dropped off or mailed to the Sheriff’s Operations Center located at 901 E Moody Blvd. in Bunnell.

“I’m the defending champ and I’m coming back to win again,” said Sheriff Staly. “This is a fun event for a good cause and it is all in good friendly competition.”
