Flagler Sheriff Helps Firework Victim Get Care At Shriners Hospital For Children

Flagler County, FL – With the help of Flagler County Sheriff, Rick Staly, one of the victims of a July fireworks accident is getting treatment from Shriners Hospital for Children.

On Sunday, July 9, two boys, ages 7 and 8, found and ignited fireworks at Dr. Carver Park in Bunnell. The fireworks were altered so they exploded and caused life-altering injuries to both boys. The fireworks were later discovered as being the same fireworks that were stolen during a burglary of a firework store in Bunnell. You can read more about the original story here and about the arrest of the burglary suspect here.

Sheriff Rick Staly is a Shriner and member of the Bahia Shrine. He asked the Shriners to help 9-year-old Faizon Brown after he lost his hand in the incident. They agreed to give Brown care at no cost, but, the Shiners could not provide transportation to Tampa. Sheriff Staly then organized a COP unit and a volunteer to drive the family to and from the hospital.

“Having to go through such a traumatizing accident at such a young age is very sad,” said Sheriff Staly. “I wanted to see them get the best care they could and I knew Shriners Hospital for Children would be there to help. I’m glad that we were able to assist so that this young man can get the medical help he needs.”
