Flagler Beach, FL -Governor Rick Scott was in Bunnell Monday for an update from Flagler officials on Hurricane Matthew recovery progress. Scott's visit came as officials said the storm damaged stretch of A1A closed in Flagler Beach is now expected to reopen November 9. Scott expedited the repairs directing FDOT to make reopening the roadway the number one priority.

The visit came as officials announced Flagler Beach has reopened additional portions of the beach to the public.

The beach is open from 23rd St N to 9th St S. Swimming and surfing is allowed, but lifeguards are not scheduled for duty. Surfers are not allowed within 150 of the Pier, which will stay closed until further notice. The Pier Bait/Gift Shop and bathrooms will be open.

“We’ve conducted 2 major beach cleanups after Hurricane Matthew with City Staff and an energetic group of Volunteers from the community," said City Manager Larry Newsom. "These efforts have removed an amazing amount of debris and the results have led to us opening an additional portion of our beautiful beach."

The beach can be reached via the following access points and dune crossover locations:
