Palm Coast, FL-A town hall meeting Tuesday night in Flagler County is organized by the Flagler County NAACP branch and is focused on ending violence. NAACP branch president Linda Sharpe-Matthews is a former New York city police officer and emphasizes that the meeting is not anti-police. FCSO is taking part in the event which begins at 6:30 PM at the Mt. Cavalry Baptist Church at 75 Pine Lakes Path in Palm Coast. Sharpe-Matthews says she thinks inadequate training is partly to blame for recent shootings of black men by white police officers and says she pulled her weapon but never fired a shot during her years in the NYPD when she worked in the South Bronx.  Sharpe-Matthews says her father and her son are both LEO and both never fired a shot while on duty.  She is the widow of an officer killed in the line of duty. She says the event is meant to open a dialogue for residents and seek an end to violence. Sharpe-Matthews says FCSO, no matter who the sheriff is, has always been engaged with the NAACP branch there and now is no different. She emphasizes that the meeting focus is on unity in the community.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
