Flagler: FEMA Extends Application Deadline To Day After Thanksgiving

Posted

Flagler County, FL – The deadline to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been extended.

Originally, the deadline to submit an application to FEMA was on Thursday, October 9. Last week, FEMA decided to push back the deadline two weeks to Friday, November 24.

“In light of the number of new daily registrations and FEMA’s history of granting extensions in similar disasters, I request the State be granted an additional 15-day extension for Individual Assistance registration,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer, Willie G. Nunn.

Residents are encouraged to apply for FEMA assistance online. If you need help with the application or if you have any questions regarding the application, you can call the FEMA helpline number at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY users).

Flagler County residents may also go to the Disaster Recovery Center at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in East Palatka located at 118 Fairgrounds Road. It is easily accessible from State Road 100 west to U.S. 17. The Center is open from 9 AM to 7 PM on Monday, October 30, through Saturday, 4, and from 9 AM to 1 PM on Sunday, November 5.

At the Center, representatives from FEMA and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available to answer questions and help with applications. The SBA provides low-interest loans to small businesses and residents.

“This is very good news for our residents,” said Flagler County Public Safety Emergency Manager, Sally Sherman. “While we certainly don’t recommend that anyone wait until the last minute to file an application, many people have the day after Thanksgiving off work and may be able to use this time to get the applications completed.”
