Flagler County, FL - The Flagler Education Foundation was presented with a check from The Able Trust for $22,000 to go toward establishing a High School High Tech Program for students with disabilities at both Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School.
The High School High Tech Program has given high school students with disabilities a chance to explore jobs and postsecondary education leading to careers in technology for the past 19 years, according to a press release from Flagler County Schools.
The grant money for the program was given to the Flagler Foundation Thursday morning and presented by Dr. Susanne Homant, President and CEO of The Able Trust. “Our research shows that people with disabilities are at least twice as likely to be unemployed as the general population,” Homant said at the presentation. “We all want you to have the future of your dreams, to the very top of your ability.”
At least 15 students will get the opportunity to take part in the program. “Flagler Schools is big on developing programs such as our Classroom to Careers initiative that ties what we do in our schools to careers found right here in Flagler County. To be able to help students with disabilities achieve success in high-tech careers is important for all of us," explains Joe Rizzo, Executive Director of the Flagler County Education Foundation.
