Expect Heavy-Equipment Traffic At Varn Park For Flagler Dunes Restoration

Posted

Flagler County, FL - Heavy-equipment traffic is expected 7 days a week, for several months, as restoration efforts at Varn Park finally begin.

Varn park closed 2 weeks ago, but dune restoration activity was delayed when the contractor for the Hammock Dunes Owners Association (HDOA) required additional time to secure specific trucks needed for use in the beach environment. Equipment will access the beach at both Varn Park and Jungle Hut Road beginning Monday, Feb. 27.

"If you were planning on getting to the beach to enjoy the great weather this weekend then consider Varn Park," said County Administrator Craig Coffey. "After Sunday, however, and for several months, you should plan to use the beach south of Varn, or north from Jungle Hut."

The permit issued by the Department of Environmental Protection to HDOA is effective until May 1. Additional projects are expected to be approved in the near future, which could temporarily limit access to other Flagler beaches.
