Flagler County Wetland Restoration Project Needs Resident Input

Posted

Flagler Beach, FL - Flagler County residents interested in saving the wetlands are invited to an interactive presentation late this afternoon. Dr. Erich Marzolf, with the St. Johns River Water Management District, said that local residents input is needed in order to make the best plan. He said "these wetlands are important because they provide critical habitat for juvenile fish, crabs, and shrimp. They provide a place for the waters of the area to be filtered, which helps with water quality."

Residents will be able to talk one-on-one with district and partner staff that have worked on the project. They'll be able to talk with someone about fish and wildlife, canals and paths they use to get to the Intracoastal Waterway.

The goal of the event, which takes place at Flagler Beach City Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m., is to gather information, revise the current plans if necessary and come back for another meeting on November 7th.

Partners to help restore dragline ditch-impacted wetlands in Flagler county include the Flagler County Wetlands Restoration Project include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the Florida State Park System.
