Flagler County, FL- Flagler County students start the school year this morning. For students at Matanzas High School, the streets around the school will be a bit different with a new traffic pattern in place. School officials urge all drivers to use extra caution because changes have taken place this summer.
Forest Grove Drive is no longer an access road to the high school. Motorists and other travelers will get to Matanzas High via the new signalized intersection at Matanzas Woods, Palm Harbor Parkway and Old Kings Road.
Sheriff’s deputies will monitor school zones and associated traffic corridors to help keep students safe and remind drivers to slow down in school zones.
Flagler CountySheriff's Office PIO Laura Williams has some tips for everyone traveling in school zones. Leave a bit earlier than you think you need to. Be extra vigilant for children on streets close to schools and along school bus routes.
Something really important to remember: when a school bus stops and turns on its flashing lights and extends it signs, you must also stop. The cost is $271 for failure to stop and $371 for passing a school bus.
For motorists violating driving laws, citation amounts can vary from $116 for a non-moving violation to $166 for a moving violation. Speeding fines start at $156 and can exceed $606 for speeding through a school zone.
