Flagler County, FL - Undersheriff Jack Bisland has announced that the Ms. Linda Bolante lawsuit was settled today.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), Sheriff Rick Staly recused himself from managing the case when he took office, as he was a witness. He appointed Undersheriff Jack Bisland to represent the agency with the Florida Sheriff's Risk Management Fund (FRSMF).

Friday, March 10, at a pre-trial mediation conference in Jacksonville, Florida, the FRSMF settled the case for $200,000.

After a total risk assessmnent of of continued litigation, which included the potential of an adverse verdict, the additional financial burden to Flagler County, and upon recommendation of the counsel of the Florida Sheriff's Risk Management attorneys, the case was settled.

The $200,000 represents lost wages, legal and litigation costs. Of the $200,000 settlement, the Sheriff's Office is responsible for $120,000. The balance will be paid from the Florida Sheriff's Risk Management Fund.

"This is a significant impact to our budget. It is unfortunate that we are faced with this finacial impact in our budget and the citizens of Flagler County have to pay for what was truly an unavoidable situation caused by the former Sheriff," said Staly.
