Flagler Purchases Property To Expand Government Services Complex

Flagler County, FL - Two properties near the Flagler County Government Services campus have now been officially purchased by the County.

The two parcels are located on Commerce Parkway, south of State Road 100. One of the properties will be the new southern library branch. The 8.4-acre parcel was purchased for $546,000, or $65,000 per acre.

The branch library in Bunnell is 3,000 square feet, which, according to the County, is not enough to fully service the southern portion of Flagler. The library does serve as Flagler's law library as it is located near the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center.

“We are popping at the seams there,” said Holly Albanese, Library Director. “Our need in Bunnell has been continually growing. It’s wonderful to have a site where we can plan for the future.”

The other property is located just behind the current Government Services Complex. That property will be used to expand Flagler's maintenance and support operations. The 9-acre parcel was purchased for $360,800. The purchase prices for both parcels also included mitigation for wetland impacts.

The new properties are accessible through existing roads. Commerce Parkway will be extended to U.S. 1 so that the library will have an additional access point. The County has not yet made a schedule for either project.

“The population of Flagler County keeps growing, and the addition of these two parcels is going to help us meet our future needs,” said Craig Coffey, County Administrator.
