Flagler County, FL-Both high schools in Flagler County are being nationally recognized as part of the Washington Post's "Challenge Index." Matanzas High School and Palm Coast High School are on "America's Most Challenging High Schools" list for good reason, according to Flagler Schools Information Specialist Jason Wheeler.

Wheeler said some 22,000 public high schools across the country were examined with a bit more than 10 percent (2,440) making the list. The Challenge Index takes the total number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge tests given to students. The total is divided by the number of seniors who graduate to come up with the rankings.

All students who attempt the challenging courses and the tests is given credit just for trying. Wheeler said the Post research found that even low performing students did significantly better in college than students who did not take the more challenging courses.
