Flagler County Commission To Vote On New Captain's BBQ Location In Bing's Landing

Palm Coast, FL - The Flagler County Commission hears feedback from the public regarding a plan to move a popular local restaurant that has drawn some support and controversy from residents.

At their meeting earlier today, the county commission garnered both praise and difference regarding a new lease that would move Captain's BBQ to the center of Bing's Landing, a popular local park along the intracoastal waterway located in the Hammock section of Flagler.

One point of the meeting was to garner what Captain's plan was, a plan that was made last year but not delivered before the council.

This plan includes moving Captain's a southwest location in Bing's Landing, close to the intracoastal. This plan would give Captain's their new building without having to shut down the previous location, and it wouldn't take up much of the park.

But, some believe that Bing's Landing is not a location that's up for the taking, especially for a bar.

"It's a community park, it's a place where families bring their children. It is not a place for a bar" said Dennis Clark, a resident, to the council. "Besides its historic value and that of a boat launch, it is a model of what the Hammock represents."

Another resident, Jane, spoke out against Captain's BBQ, saying that they don't deserve the property as there's no proof of the property helping the city pay for the property, stating "There is no attachment, there is no substantiation of a damn penny that they have ever invested."

Now, the plan has seen some support from local leaders. Jorge Gutierrez, the President of the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce, says the expansion of Captain's BBQ will help with the economic growth of the city and county.

The county still has some options to review with the restaurant and public before the decision is made.
