Flagler County, FL - Flagler County residents turned in 150 pounds of expired or unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO). FCSO supervised the collections across the county where residents could drop off their unwanted prescriptions and medications with no questions asked. The Drug Take Back sites included four Publix shopping plazas, along with the Palm Coast District Sheriff's Office. The Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) will also pick up the collections and properly dispose of them on Monday. "This program not only keeps harmful medications out of landfills and our water supply, but it also gets drugs off the streets so they cannot be abused by addicts or sold by poison peddlers who break in homes to steal them," says Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. If you missed Saturday's Drug Take Back Day, you can still find a location to drop off your expired and unwanted medications. You can find a location by looking here or here.
