Flagler County, FL-Update: Volusia Public Schools will be closed Friday for Hurricane Hermine. The storm this morning downgraded to a tropical storm. That decision came Thursday hours after Flagler County made a similar decision. Both school systems are closed for the Labor Day holiday Monday and both resume classes Tuesday. Earlier reporting:Flagler County has decided to close public schools and offices Friday, September 2, due to Hurricane Hermine. All after-school programs and extended day will also be closed. Schools Superintendent Jacob Oliva made the decision after consulting with County Emergency Managers. The information from the county says there was concern about the safety of school buses operating in anticipated high winds and the safety of parents who would be taking their students to school. Automated phone calls and emails were going out to make the notification. A decision on a make up day would be made in the next few weeks. Schools were already set to be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday. 2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
