Flagler Beach, FL-Flagler Beach Police Chief Captain Matt Doughney says an upcoming event is aimed at helping locals to keep important information private and not become a victim of identity theft. The department is holding a "Shred the Word" event from 9am to 11am on Saturday, January 7. Doughney says tossing papers into the trash just makes it too easy for ID thieves to pick through and find information they need to victimize people. At the event, you can actually stand by and watch as your personal information is shredded. Doughney says in the partnership with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and Synergy and Home Bridge Financial Services a mobile shredding machine will be at the Publix on SR 100 and Roberts Road that day. Doughney says as protection measures get better, the criminals are getting smarter. He hopes this event will help prevent some local folks from becoming victims. You don't have to be a Flagler Beach resident to take part.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
