2016 election voter registration

Florida - On Wednesday, a federal judge extended the deadline to register to vote in Florida until Tuesday, October 18, due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

During Wednesday's hearing, US District Judge Mark Walker extended the deadline 6 more days, having already extended the original October 11 deadline by 1 day after the FL Democratic Party filed a lawsuit.

Democrats had asked Republican Governor Rick Scott to extend the deadline, but he refused saying people have already had plenty of time to register.

On Tuesday, Jackie Shutz, spokeswoman for Gov Scott, said the state would accept the court's decision on the deadline.
