DeLand, FL - Florida Hospital DeLand has recently been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for excellence in shoulder replacement surgery, becoming one of only five hospitals in the state to earn the accomplishment in the process.

The certification designated Florida Hospital DeLand as a Center of Excellence for total shoulder replacement surgery, or shoulder arthroplasty. The surgery involves replacing bones in the shoulder with an artificial joint. The surgery can relieve pain and restore mobility if other treatment options have been ineffective.

“This recognition is the highest of its kind in the field of orthopedic surgery and assures the community they are receiving the best orthopedic surgery care possible at our facility,” said Florida Hospital DeLand CEO, Lorenzo Brown.

To be considered for certification, Florida Hospital DeLand underwent several thorough onsite reviews. Experts with The Joint Commission evaluated the hospital based on clinical practice guidelines, performance measures, and its compliance with national health care standards.

Florida Hospital DeLand is also a designated Center of Excellence for total hip and total knee replacement surgery. It is in the only hospital in Volusia County that has been certified for both shoulder, hip, and knee replacements.
