Tallahassee, FL-As Tropical Storm Colin rumbled across Florida, State Attorney General Pam Bondi was busy activating the price gouging hotline. The number is 1-866-NO SCAM.
That number is active in the areas where the governor declared a state of emergency. In those counties, any “price gouging” is prohibited meaning “extreme increases in the price of essential commodities.” Anyone found doing that can face prosecution according to Bondi.
“Florida consumers need to be diligent during this state of emergency to ensure they do not become victims of price gouging,” Bondi said in a statement. “Taking advantage of consumers during a declared state of emergency is not only reprehensible, it is illegal and will not be tolerated.”
