Maytown Spur Brush Fire 051316

Flagler County, FL-A brush fire near Oak Hill began on Friday the 13th and firefighters are still keeping a watchful eye on it. Wildfire Mitigation Specialist for the Bunnell District, Julie Allen, said that the fire is considered to be 50% contained as of Monday.

Allen said the fire is not completely contained because it has burned into a swamp. Firefighters aren't able to cut a fire line due to the ground conditions.

The original estimate of 25 acres has increased to a bit more than 100 as the fire jumped the containment lines over the weekend due to windy conditions and low humidity.

Allen said that firefighters are checking the area every day and a pilot flying a fixed-wing aircraft will monitor the situation from overhead. More than 4,600 gallons of water were used for fire containment on Sunday.
