Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) responded to two fires in the city before 8 AM on Saturday morning. A structure fire at the Volusia Mall occurred after a light fixture caught on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the area to remove smoke. The mall was not open at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. While firefighters were on scene at the mall, the DBFD was notified of a fire that had just started at 161 Pierce Ave. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to the surrounding houses. The home did sustain extensive damages as a result of the fire. Firefighters confirmed there was one occupant at the home and that they were able to exit the home without injury. At this time, the DBFD is not sure how the fire started.
