Fire Engulfs Upper Room Of 2-Story Home & Leaves Residents Displaced

Daytona Beach, FL - Firefighters from Daytona Beach and South Daytona responded to a large structure fire that broke out at a 2-story home Monday morning. According to the Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD), 5 engines from the DBFD and 1 engine from South Daytona responded to Cedar Street in Daytona Beach where a fire had started on the 2nd floor of a single-family home just after 8:30 AM, Monday, May 1. The 2-story home has 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room on the top floor with a 2-car garage on the bottom floor. 2 adults and 2 children were inside the house when 1 of the adults heard a popping sound and found that 1 of the bedrooms in flames. The residents safely evacuated and got to an area outside of the home. As firefighters attacked the fire that was engulfing the 2nd floor, glass windows began to break and a nearby power line started sparking. Firefighters were able to control the fire and prevent the flames from spreading to surrounding homes. The Red Cross was called to assist the 7 occupants of the house after extensive damage was done to their home. 4 of the residents were on the scene of the fire while 3 other children were at school. The cause of the fire is currently unknown as firefighters are investigating.
