Volusia County, FL – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 92 near Clark Bay Road in DeLand.

At around 3:30 AM on Saturday, a 27-year-old Deleon Springs man was driving a 2012 Dodge pickup westbound on U.S. 92 in the right lane. An unidentified 55-year-old man from Ruskin, Florida was driving a 1999 Dodge van in the right-hand lane of U.S 92 in front of the Dodge pickup.

The 55-year-old put on his hazard lights to notify the other driver that he was slowing down to pull off onto the right shoulder, but the second driver never slowed down and struck the van from behind.

Two people in the van were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, one with critical injuries. The driver of the van was pronounced dead by the medical examiner and his name will be released as soon as next-of-kin is notified.

FHP is investigating the crash and they say charges are pending.
