Orlando, FL - A Port Orange man prosecutors call the head of a motorcycle gang gets 11 years in prison for his role in a meth distribution ring.
Brian "Sledge" Burt learned his fate following a hearing in federal court yesterday (April 9th) in front of United States District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr.
Burt was sentenced for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine after pleading guilty on January 16th.
The U.S. Department of Justice says Burt was part of the "Mother Chapter" of the Pagans Motorcycle Club, a small group which worked with other drug trafficking organizations to distribute meth in and around the Daytona Beach area.
He becomes the 19th person found guilty in federal court after law enforcement shut those groups down last August, according to Rachel L. Rojas, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Jacksonville office.
"This case exemplifies the cooperation among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to dismantle dangerous criminal organizations that threaten the safety of our communities," Rojas added. "The FBI will continue to target the leadership of these organizations and bring them to justice for the harm caused by their criminal actions."
A Mexican illegal was among those entering guilty pleas in February, as did a Key West man authorities say was a drug supplier for the Pagans.
The Volusia Bureau of Investigation, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department helped the feds in this crackdown, according to DOJ officials.
