Volusia County, FL- With the beginning of beach season, beach access ramps opened at their full operating capacity Feb. 1. All of the regular in-season access ramps are open with the exception of Williams Avenue in Daytona Beach. This ramp sustained significant damage from Hurricane Matthew and needs to be fully reconstructed. The Hartford Avenue beach ramp, which is 0.3 miles to the south, is open this year as an alternative ramp while Williams Avenue is being repaired. For a list of beach access ramps, visit Volusia.org/beach and click on the “Beach Driving and Parking” tab. Beach drivers are reminded to have one front window down and headlights on at all times; observe the 10 mph speed limit; and watch for pedestrians, children and wildlife. Texting while driving is prohibited, and cell phone use is discouraged. Annual passes for Volusia County beaches and inlet parks are available at volusiabeachpass.com. Volusia County has revamped the passes, making them renewable so toll attendants will no longer need to scrape old passes off windshields each year. The new passes are designed to last several years, can be mounted on the exterior of the windshield making it tint friendly, and are easier to renew annually. If your current pass states “Renewable,” the collector will scan the sticker and the pass will be renewed for 2017. Residents and visitors who want to save time in line can go online to volusiabeachpass.com to renew their pass. Annual passes are available at 2016 rates. Beach passes are $25 for Volusia County residents and $100 for non-residents. County inlet parks passes are $20 for residents and visitors. Annual beach and county inlet park combo passes are $45 for residents and $120 for visitors. The renewable annual combo pass for the beach and county parks is free for people who have a permanent handicapped or disabled veterans license plate. The passes are not transferrable between vehicles. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
