New Smyrna Beach, FL - The Florida Department of Transportation is looking for input from residents about a proposed interchange at I-95 and Pioneer Trail during a public meeting in New Smyrna Beach. The meeting will kick off on Wednesday, June 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sugar Mill Country Club at 100 Clubhouse Circle in New Smyrna Beach. The meeting will be informal, open house style. The project development and environmental study of the proposed interchange will address the environmental and social impacts in the potentially affected area from Williamson Boulevard to Turnbull Bay Road. "Right now, the purpose of this interchange is to help relieve congestion that's on the two adjacent interchanges on the north and south end of the project," says Jessica Ottaviano, spokesperson for FDOT. Those adjacent interchanges are at I-95 and Dunlawton Avenue and State Road 44 and Lytle Avenue. During this phase of the study, the FDOT will also get feedback about how the interchange would affect growing development in the area. Ottaviano says there have been previous studies regarding the proposed interchange, but that "this will be another time to talk and discuss the concerns or the benefits that people are looking forward to, or anything that people would like to propose in this area."
