State Officials Tout Emergency Contact System As Hurricane Season Begins

Be Prepared

Volusia County, FL-The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reminds you that there's more to preparing for an emergency or disaster than gathering supplies. They also suggest enrolling in Florida’s Emergency Contact Information (ECI) system. This will help law enforcement know who to notify in an emergency situation.

Beth Frady, Director of Communications for the FDHSMV, said there are benefits to being signed up for the ECI program. An important benefit is the fast notification of your emergency contacts.

Anyone with a valid driver license or identification card can enter up to two contacts into the system’s secure database. Frady said it's very easy to sign up for the program. You can sign up at any DMV or tax collector office in Florida.

For those with security concerns, Frady said the database of emergency contacts is very secure. It can only be accessed by law enforcement during times of emergency.

Florida was the first state in the nation to implement the ECI program. Individuals can register or update their designated contact information at no cost or get more information by clicking here.
