Flagler County, FL – According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), a deputy was injured when he crashed his motorcycle chasing after a man who fled the scene of an earlier crash.

On Wednesday, deputy Bret Wood responded to a crash near State Road 100 and I-95. Upon arriving, one of the vehicles involved in the crash left the scene. Deputy Wood tried to complete a traffic stop at the I-95 onramp but lost control of his motorcycle after the driver quickly stopped in front of him. Wood’s motorcycle hit the pavement and the driver fled.

Wood sustained non-life threatening injuries to his chin, chest, and arms. Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly talked to Wood as he was loaded into the ambulance. Wood is expected to fully recover.

“Thank God Deputy Wood was wearing his helmet because he took a hard hit to the head,” said Staly. “I’m glad that he’s going to be okay. Now we need to track down the driver.”

The man that fled both crash scenes was driving an older white Buick Rendezvous with a South Carolina license plate. He was described as a white male in his 60s, and about 5’7” with white hair. He was wearing a light-colored shirt and brown pants. The driver now faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage for the first crash and leaving the scene of a crash with injury, a felony, for the second crash.
