Flagler County, FL - A woman has been charged after she crashed into the back of a school bus filled with children.

Around 8:15 on Monday morning a school bus stopped on Pine Grove Drive at Pittman Drive. According to a press release from the Flagler County School District, the warning lights were flashing as the bus came to a stop then there was a "sudden jolt to the back of the bus," that felt like a collision.

The driver immediately put the bus in park and checked on the students on board. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office was contacted and paramedics were sent to the scene. "There were 19 children on that bus," said Jason Wheeler, Community Information Specialist with Flagler Schools. "All 19 were checked out by paramedics... They were OK. We brought in another bus, put them on that bus and took them to Wadsworth Elementary School, which is the school they attend."

FCSO's investigation revealed that the woman who drove into the back of the bus was at fault. "Her testimony to us was that she had been eating food in her car and the food had spilled on her," said Jim Troiano, Director with FCSO. "She went to shuffle it off of her clothing and when she did she struck the school bus."

Troiano and FCSO want drivers to be careful and stay focused on the road. "Cleaning ourselves off... that's something we should be pulling to the side of the road for," said Troiano.

The woman has been charged with Careless Driving.
