FCSO Deputy Stops For College, Returns To Force To Connect With Community

flagler county sheriffs car edited Flagler County, FL- Comments and questions at a Flagler NAACP meeting recently made a former FCSO deputy reconsider his career course. Deputy Jason Williams left the Sheriff's Office in May in order to get his college degree in management. Williams said he changed his path after attending that meeting on July 12. The comments and questions about community policing and outreach, racial profiling and recruiting African-American police officers bothered Williams. He said if he "hadn't attended that meeting and seen the need, he'd still be going to school." In an effort to foster cooperation between residents and police, Sheriff Jim Manfre has spoken in area churches and with civic groups in order to improve communication. Williams first day back on the job was last Wednesday.
