Holly Hill, FL – A 50-year-old woman is dead and four other people are sent to the hospital in the aftermath of a multi-vehicle crash which totally shut down a busy Holly Hill street for hours.

First responders were called to the scene around 2:40 p.m. today on Nova Road just north of the Flomich Street intersection. That’s just west of the Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Holly Hill Police Department Chief Stephen Aldrich says four vehicles were involved, including a black sport utility vehicle which rolled over and ended up on its roof in the northbound lanes of Nova.

“A northbound SUV crashed into three vehicles that were stopped in the southbound turning lane waiting to turn eastbound onto Flomich,” Aldrich added. “[The woman who died was in] the first vehicle that was struck.”

That woman – 50-year-old Gwendolyn Gilbert of Holly Hill – died at the scene, per Aldrich. She was in a black car which ended up in the grass median between northbound and southbound lanes.

The condition of the other four people involved isn’t known at this time. Their identities have also not been released by HHPD.

The other two vehicles involved – a white car and a red SUV – ended up in the southbound lanes, forcing police to close travel in all directions on Nova and run detours while investigators processed the scene.

No charges have been filed at this point, but the crash still remains under investigation, per Aldrich.
