ERAU Commencement Ceremonies Begin Saturday May 7

Daytona Beach, FL- Embry-Riddle Commencement and Commissioning Ceremonies will be held Tuesday, May 10, 10 a.m.

Daytona Beach Campus Commencement Ceremony

Embry-Riddle’s commencement ceremony for 748 students of the Daytona Beach Campus will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at the Ocean Center, 101 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach.

The graduating class includes 67 Daytona Beach students receiving military commissions: 36 from Air Force ROTC, 11 from Army ROTC and 20 from Naval ROTC.

Commencement speaker will be Embry-Riddle graduate, the Honorable Robert L. Sumwalt of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Sumwalt was first appointed to the NTSB in August 2006 by President George W. Bush as the 37th Member, serving a two-year term as Vice Chairman of the Board. In November 2011, President Barack Obama reappointed Sumwalt to an additional five-year term as Board Member.

Sumwalt earned an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Aeronautical Science (with Distinction) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with concentrations in aviation/aerospace safety systems and human factors aviation systems. He was honored with Embry-Riddle's Distinguished Speaker Award in 2015.

U.S. Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremony

The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus will conduct its annual spring commissioning ceremony in the Henderson Welcome Center, Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony. Lt. Gen. Michael S. Tucker, who has served as commander of the First Army since August 2013, will be the keynote speaker.

Monday, May 9, 1 p.m.

U.S. Air Force ROTC Commissioning Ceremony

The Embry-Riddle Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps will hold a commissioning ceremony for its Second Lieutenants in the United States Air Force beginning on Monday, May 9 at 1 pm. in the ICI Center. The social hour will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the formal ceremony at 2 p.m. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony will be Maj. Gen. Dwyer L. Dennis, Director, Global Reach Programs, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

Officer candidate Derek Dennis, Maj. Gen. Dennis’ son, will be graduating Embry-Riddle and commissioning into the Air Force.

U.S. Naval ROTC Commissioning Ceremony

The Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps will host its spring commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, May 10 at 3 p.m. in the Henderson Welcome Center. Graduating Midshipmen will be taking the oath of office to commission as Ensigns in the Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony. Speaking at the event will be Retired Rear Admiral Steven W. Maas, formerly the Navy Director of Logistics and Engineering, Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
