Embry-Riddle Student Dies In Motorcycle Crash In Daytona Beach Shores

Daytona Beach Shores, FL - An Embry-Riddle University student and Army enlistee was killed in a motorcycle crash in Daytona Beach Shores early Friday morning. 21-year-old Colton Butterfield was driving the motorcycle in the 2900 block of South Atlantic Ave. at around 2 AM when he crashed. Butterfield was driving at "an extremely high rate of speed," according to City of Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety. He missed a curve, left the roadway, and was ejected from the motorcycle, crashing into some utility poles. Officers responded to the area of South Atlantic and Oceans West Blvd. after residents called to report the crash. When they arrived, Butterfield was in cardiac arrest.
