Election Chief McFall Marks Last Day In Office

Posted
red white and blue ballot Volusia County, FL-Today is the final day on the job for retiring Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall and the end of a career that began with a run for Volusia County School Board. McFall says education is where her heart really is and, when asked to pick a single highlight, she barely hesitates and says, "Building Deltona High School." She got involved in that issue because her children were growing up and Deltona didn't have a high school. That ultimately led to McFall's run for the board. McFall also was a Volusia County Council member for five years. During her tenure as the elections chief, McFall oversaw the county's part in the tumultuous 2000 presidential election that included a recount in several places in Florida and ended with the U.S. Supreme Court decision that saw George W. Bush elected. Asked about the Volusia County Council agenda item this week that will name Thursday as "Ann McFall Day", McFall says simply, "It's overwhelming" and "It's a humbling feeling to be acknowledged." McFall's retirement will be marked during the Volusia County Council meeting Thursday at 9 AM.
