DeLand, FL - An 87-year-old man that was hurt by a burglar who broke into his home earlier this month died from his injuries on Thursday.

Carl Husfeld told Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies that he was in his home, at 12 Oak Cir, when he heard someone breaking in at around 6:50 on the morning of December 8th. When Husfeld went to investigate he came face-to-face with the suspect. "There was a struggle, he was hit with a door and injured, and sometime later after a hospital stay he died of those injuries," said VCSO Public Information Officer Andrew Gant.

Husfeld was being treated at Florida Hospital DeLand and Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for fractures on several bones in his face and head.

The suspect's been described as a short, stocky, heavy-set man. It's not much to go on but Gant's hoping they'll be able to jog someone's memory and get a lead.

Anyone with info should call VCSO at 386-254-1535 or Crime Stopers at 1-888-277-TIPS where you'll remain anonymous and you can qualify for a reward of up to $5,000.
