Early Morning Shooting In DeLand Leaves 1 Dead; Police Searching For Suspect

DeLand, FL -  5/9/18 1:15 PM Update: The DeLand Police Department said at a Wednesday press conference that 22-year-old Michael L. Dixon, who died following a Wednesday morning shooting on Ambrose St., had a criminal history of narcotics offenses.

"Investigators have not confirmed at this time that this homicide is related to narcotics or narcotics sales, but obviously we are looking at this as a strong possibility for a motive to this shooting," DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said at the press conference.

5/9/18 10:40 AM Update: The DeLand Police Department says that the victim from Wednesday morning's shooting on Ambrose St. has passed away.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Michael L. Dixon of DeLand. The investigation is ongoing.

Police in DeLand are investigating a shooting that happened early Wednesday morning on Ambrose Street.

Police got the call about shots being fired at 612 Ambrose St. in DeLand at around 4:52 AM on May 9. When police got to the scene, they found one man with a gunshot wound and another uninjured person inside the home.

The victim was rushed to Florida Hospital DeLand, where he's being treated for his injuries.

K-9 units from the Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach Police Departments were called to the scene to help search for the suspect.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it becomes available.
