Shores Gift Shop Fire Causes $250K In Damages

Daytona Beach Shores, FL - An early morning fire at a gift shop that did almost $250,000 in damage is now being investigated by the state.

After 12:30 this morning (February 11th), an officer with Daytona Beach Shore Department of Public Safety was flagged down and told that smoke was coming from the Fantasy Beach Wear gift shop found off Main Street.

When responding units made entry they found that the smoke was coming from a fire in the back of the building.

"The entire building was full of smoke," says Captain Mike Fowler with Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety. "We were able to find the fire, contain it and extinguish it pretty quickly.

Units from Port Orange, Daytona Beach and South Daytona responded alongside Daytona Beach Shores to fight the fire.

Fowler said that the damage to the building as well as the destroyed merchandise totals almost $250,000.

During the initial investigation, units found evidence that the fire was caused by some kind of electrical problem.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating.
