Ormond Beach, FL - A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was nearly struck by a car on Tuesday night after he stopped to help a semi-truck that had broken down in Ormond Beach.

At 4:20 PM on August 15, Trooper Cody Brown, 20, stopped on I-95 southbound at MM 268, near LPGA Blvd., to help a car hauler that had broken down. Brown parked his patrol car behind the semi and turned on his emergency lights to warn motorists to use caution in the area.

At 5:23 PM a vehicle almost hit Brown as he was standing outside of his patrol car. The suspect vehicle was traveling south on I-95 in the inside lane when it suddenly moved into the outside lane and headed straight at Brown. The quick-thinking trooper dove in between the semi and his own patrol car to avoid being hit.

Luckily, the car didn't hit Brown or either of the vehicles parked on the side of the interstate. Brown did suffer a minor arm injury but didn't require treatment.

The suspect vehicle then swerved back into the southbound lanes, never stopping as Brown got back into his patrol vehicle and tried to catch up. The car exited onto SR-40 and ran a red light before reentering I-95 southbound.

According to FHP, the vehicle was a silver 2006 Chrysler 300 registered to someone who lives in Ft. Lauderdale. Troopers in Ft. Lauderdale have been made aware of the incident and will try to find the registered owner.

The incident is under investigation and charges are pending.
