Driver From Edgewater Dies After Crashing Into New Smyrna Beach Home

New Smyrna Beach, FL - Update: The driver who was killed after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a New Smyrna Beach home on Monday has been identified as 57-year-old Walter Sumner of Edgewater.

An Edgewater man died early Monday morning when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a New Smyrna Beach home.

The 57-year-old man, who has yet to be identified, was driving a 2002 Ford pickup north on Glencoe Rd. when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the vehicle. It was around 3:30 AM when the pickup left the roadway, hit a fence, continued into the yard at 2299 Glencoe Rd., and then the front of the truck hit the front of the house.

No one inside the home was hurt, but the driver's injuries were fatal. The crash is still under investigation and at this point, it's not known if alcohol played a factor.
