Volusia County, FL – The Department of Health in Volusia County (DOH-Volusia) is encouraging residents to attend a healing and remembrance service in honor of World AIDS Day.

On December 1, people around the world join together in solidarity with those suffering from Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). World AIDS Day was created in 1988 and, according to their website, it was the first health day to be recognized globally.

Volusia and Flagler residents are invited to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 1014 N. Halifax Drive in Daytona Beach, for a local service to remember those lost and to support those fighting AIDS. The service will start at 7 PM on December 1. Comprehensive Care Center, DOH-Volusia, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, and Outreach Community Care Network are set to host the event.

Reverend Donna Choate will be the keynote speaker. She will speak about the evolution of HIV from when it was first discovered to where we are today and what we can look forward to in the future. Topics interfaith ministers will about speak about include hope, stigma, courage, anger, and other challenges. After the ceremony, attendees are invited to share photos of loved ones and attend a reception.

For additional information about the event, you can contact Joseph Huynh with the Outreach Community Care Network at 386-255-5569 ext. 216.
