Daytona Beach, FL-A dog is quarantined in Daytona Beach after it attacked and killed another dog Wednesday around 7:40 AM. A woman was walking her child in a stroller with her two dachshunds in the 2300 block of South Halifax Drive when she told police the male pit bull dog came charging at her and attacked and killed one of her dogs. Her other dog was apparently injured in the attack. A witness was able to pull the attacking dog away and neither the woman or the child were hurt.

The pit bull was secured to a power pole nearby when police arrived.

The victim's two dogs were taken by the woman's husband to the vet for treatment before police arrived.

The investigation found that the dog belonged to Robert Byron of 2234 South Atlantic Avenue and the pit bull had been reported to Animal Control in October 2015. In that incident, the dog was tethered in the backyard with about 25 feet of rope that allowed it to get to the fence. Workers on the other side of the fence said they feared the dog could jump over. Authorities on that occasion got the owner to shorten the tether and also issued a notice for city license and rabies vaccination. A follow-up check found the owner in compliance.

The dog is quarantined at Halifax Humane Society and the investigation is continuing.
