Posted

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A dog was hit, at least once, and killed by a driver after the dog was crossing the street in New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday afternoon, and the New Smyrna Beach Police Department (NSBPD) is investigating the case. The NSBPD's Public Information Office has confirmed that the male golden retriever-labrador mix, named Bubba, was crossing U.S. 1 on Tuesday when a driver, who was traveling northbound on U.S. 1, struck and killed the dog. NSBPD says there are conflicting stories as to whether the dog was hit once or twice. The dog's owner does live in New Smyrna Beach. This is still an open investigation, and police have currently tracked down the driver of the vehicle. NSBPD says that, at this point, there is no evidence pointing to an intentional act, but investigators are questioning the driver to get more information. The driver's name has not yet been released. More information will be released as it becomes available. NOTE: Dog in featured photo is not the dog mentioned in story.
