Dog Attacked By Gator In Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach, FL - A family makes a GoFundMe page to help pay for their dog's recovery after he was attacked by an alligator.

The 7-year-old Boxer mix named Jack left his family's home on Putnam Avenue with another dog named Jill after a friend came by and let the dogs out early Wednesday (September 26th) morning.

Jack wandered south to Greenwood Avenue when he was attacked by a gator near Strickland Creek.

"(He) took off and went down to the creek for a little swim," says Darla Westbury, the daughter of the father who owns Jack. "Next thing we know we get a call, some guy pulled Jack out of the water and said he had been bitten by an alligator."

Westbury says that Jack had suffered a broken rear leg, multiple cuts on his side, a wound on his right front leg and a large gash on his hip deep enough to see muscle.

The family then brought Jack to a veterinary clinic in Ormond Beach. However, Westbury said that the clinic told them that his injuries were too extensive for anyone to take care of in the area and that he would need a specialist.

Therefore, the father took Jack to Jacksonville where he's currently undergoing treatment. The family says he will most likely be up there for a week.

His treatment includes him being put under once if not twice a day so they can clean his wound and trim off dead areas so they can keep infections from setting in.

Westbury set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Jack's treatment which will cost around $7,500. For those wishing to donate to Jack's recovery, they can visit the page by clicking here.
