DNA Results Lead To Surprise Burglary Arrest

DeLand, FL - Patient Volusia County Sheriff's Office detectives are rewarded a break after DNA results came back on a suspect unexpectedly linked to a July burglary.

VCSO announced that 31-year-old Kevin Hutton, who was already in jail for a July 2018 burglary in DeLeon Springs, added a new charge to his rap-sheet on Tuesday (November 20th) after DNA results link him to another burglary that took place on July 7th.

Hutton, a known burglar and violent felony offender with 10 other previous bookings according to Volusia County Jail records, now faces additional charges of burglary, dealing in stolen property, grand theft and false ownership to a second-hand dealer for the July 7th burglary of a home on Penncrest Court in DeLand.

It was at that burglary that a male resident arrived home and found that someone had entered the resident while everyone was away, stealing several pieces of jewelry.

DNA recovered from that scene was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.

Then months later, detectives with VCSO were notified that the DNA matched Hutton.

In addition to new burglary charges, Hutton violated his probation as a violent offender.

He was on probation until 2022 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He remains in Volusia County Jail without bond.
