Video Released In Deputy Involved Fatal Shooting Of Armed Suspect

DeLand, FL-UPDATE: Bystander video taken during the fatal shooting on Sunday of an armed suspect by VCSO deputies in DeLand has been released.  The suspect is identified as 32-year-old Donald Edward Brown III. The link to the video can be found by clicking here.

Officers say that Brown refused to drop a knife he was holding when deputies ordered him to. They then opened fire.  That shooting shut the intersection of US 17-92 and Firehouse Road near DeLand. The deputies were not hurt.

The armed robbery happened around 12:30 at the Orange City Park N Ride at 1299 Saxon Boulevard. VCSO has released the 911 call made by the victims. They reported their wallets were stolen at gunpoint. They provided descriptions of the suspect and the suspect vehicle.  You can hear the call by clicking here.

Around 12:51 PM, a deputy made a traffic stop and the female driver, who has since been identified as 24-year-old Erin Casey Finney, complied and was taken into custody. Finney is being charged as a  principal to armed robbery by the Orange City PD and felony murder by VCSO.  She is in the Volusia County Jail and being held without bond.

Brown refused to show his hands and refused to obey orders from the deputies. He was shot and a knife located in his hand after the shooting.

Deputies were investigating the shooting this afternoon.VCSO says three deputies fired on the man.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating. The deputies involved are being placed on administrative leave. That’s standard involving all deputy-involved shootings.

VCSO says the robbery is being investigated by the Orange City Police Department.
