Deltona Walmart Employee Caught Taking Money From Safe, Leaving Counterfeits

Posted
Deltona,  FL - A Deltona Walmart employee was arrested on Monday night for taking real money from the store safe and replacing it with counterfeit bills. Other employees had noticed that there was something different about a $10,000 bundle of cash in the store's safe. On Sunday, a Walmart cash office associate then inspected the money and found that $7,600 in bills from the middle of the pack of $100 notes were counterfeit. After realizing that some of the money was fake, the cash office associate alerted the manager who then wrapped the bundle in white paper and wrote "DO NOT USE" before putting it back into the safe. On Monday, a loss prevention officer went to inspect the counterfeit money in the safe only to find that the fake bills were gone. Reviewing the surveillance footage, the officer discovered that employee Xiomara Matias-Cruz would go into the cash office to count and verify the money in the safe at the start of every shift, and was also seen holding unbundled cash in her hands. Matias-Cruz was contacted by a deputy on Monday evening, and was arrested on the charges of grand theft and obtaining property fraud.
