wrecking ball Deltona, FL-Deltona city officials announcing another house declared unsafe will fall to the wrecking ball Wednesday. The demolition set to begin at 9 AM. The 1600 square foot house is at 1182 Fountainhead Drive. City officials say it has been empty since 2014 and has developed structural issues. The roof has collapsed in several places. "That's why the house is deemed unsafe," said Lee Lopez, Public Information Officer for the City of Deltona. The demolition of this house is part of the Deltona Beautification Campaign. Lopez says it began in February when a burned out home on Covington Drive was torn down. Three other homes are currently on the list for demolition are abandoned and have been declared unsafe. Those homes are 847 Crawford Street, 3121 Blaine Circle, and 1195 Acron Court. All are set to be demolished in the next 30 days. "The houses that are slated for demolition... These are houses that the City's been working with the owners over the past couple of years to see if there's anything that they can do to try and get the house back up to code," said Lopez. Demolition is the last resort. According to Lopez, the city would prefer that "the owners would be able to get the house back into a habitable state." When the city does demolish a house, the lot still belongs to the owner of the house. Usually, when the city ends up demolishing a house it's because the owner "can't afford to knock down the structure" so the city does it for them. Many of the houses that have been or are scheduled to be demolished by the city have gone into foreclosure and are owned by the bank, and it's easier for the bank to sell if the lot has been cleared.
